What can I expect from my first session?
First session always involves general housekeeping like fees, confidentiality, frequency in which we’ll have sessions, etc. This is a good time for you to ask any question about the therapeutic process.
Also, the first session is when I am going to start to know you, so you are expected to tell some background information, what are your current concerns, your goals and what you would like to achieve by consulting with me.
How talking to a psychologist will help me?
Talking to someone, and being properly listened to, can help in many ways. For some people, just being listened to can seem like a new experience. I will help you to make sense of your feelings and thoughts and we will develop strategies to improve your symptoms, general well being and even coaching you to achieve your goals.
How long are the appointments?
Sessions last between 50 – 60 minutes.
Does my problem have to be a serious for me to see a psychologist?
No, many personal, relationship or academic-related problems can be helped through counselling. Seeing a psychologist is about making a positive choice to get the help you need. There are people that see a psychologist when there are happy just to better understand their feelings in order to last it (It’s rare, but it happens!!)
